MOSS

Moss is a type of small, non-vascular plant that belongs to the Bryophyte division. It typically grows in moist and shady environments, forming dense green clumps or mats on surfaces such as rocks, trees, roof tiles , block paving and walls. This can absorb alot of water causing surfaces, walls and roofs to deteriate and depart from one another over time.

LICHENS

LICHENS

Lichens are a complex life form they are two separate organisms, FUNGUS & ALGAE. There is 20,000 different types of lichens and they do not have roots to absorb water and nutrients. Yellow lichen CONTAINS TOXIN VULPINIC ACID which is very poisonous. They grow on Rocks, walls, gravestones, roofs, exposed soil ,slabs and soil crust.

Algae

ALGAE

Algae normally forms on the  north side and west side parts of the roof. Typically placed shaded or receiving less sun light. A build up of  algae can cause the roof surface to damage over time. It can also show through the side of rendered houses leaving a nasty streak pattens. Algae is a very slippery organic growth which can cause you injuries if stepped on causing you slip up.

BLACK ALGAE/BLACK SPOT

BLACK ALGAE/BLACK SPOT

Black spots commonly causes dark colour streaks and stains on surfaces such as driveways, roofs, pathways and garden walls. These black stains appear when a specific type of algae called gloeocapsa magma comes in contact with bacteria. They both are intervened when spores group together. Black spots and black streaks can causes roof rot and discolouration , not only to the roof but also to your property surfaces.
